FAQ
What makes your dog food different from other brands?
We don't use unnecessary fillers, choosing only pure and essential ingredients that truly contribute to your dog's health. What makes our food even more unique is the use of insects; they're an excellent source of protein and very easily digestible. We always ensure a mix of animal proteins (chicken or whitefish) and insect proteins. This, combined with the fact that our food is grain-free, ensures excellent digestion. You can find our full ingredient list on our website and on the bag so you know exactly what you're feeding your dog.
Are the ingredients 100% grain and gluten free?
Our kibble is 100% grain-free and gluten-free . We don't use wheat, rye, barley, or spelt in our recipes.
Where is the food produced?
Our kibble is produced in Belgium, specifically in Ghent. With Gutsy, we truly want to make a difference and support the local economy. 85% of all our ingredients come from within a 160 km radius of where we produce our kibble.
Is your food suitable for all dog breeds?
Yes, our food is suitable for all dog breeds, large or small. We ensure our recipes are perfectly balanced and meet the nutritional needs of every dog, regardless of breed or size. Of course, always ensure the correct portion size is tailored to your dog's age, weight, and activity level.
Is the food also suitable for puppies?
We have food specifically for puppies, tailored to the needs of a growing puppy.
Is the food also suitable for seniors?
Our white fish & insect food contains essential ingredients for senior dogs. Many brands offer senior food that's identical to adult food, but in a different bag. However, ours already contains what a senior dog needs: fewer calories than chicken flavor, sufficient fiber for smooth digestion, easily digestible proteins thanks to the use of insects as a protein base (which are easier to digest), and omega-3. For a well-balanced diet, we recommend supplementing senior dogs with hip & joint, which contains glucosamine to support joint health.
Is the food also suitable for dogs with allergies?
- Our food is hypoallergenic, but what exactly does this mean? Hypoallergenic means the food is less likely to cause allergic reactions because it's made with ingredients that rarely cause allergies . This doesn't mean that all dogs with allergies automatically tolerate it well, but the risk is much lower. Why our food is hypoallergenic:
- 1 protein source per flavor (chicken or fish):
By using just one animal protein source, we reduce the risk of allergic reactions. If your dog is sensitive to chicken, for example, our fish version is the safest choice . - No artificial additives: No preservatives, colours or flavours that could trigger your dog's body.
- Carefully selected ingredients: Only what your dog needs. No wheat, soy, or other common triggers.
- What about insects? Food with insect protein is a golden option for sensitive dogs . Insects are a novel protein source , so dogs are rarely allergic to them. Moreover, it's also a sustainable choice 🌍.
- Please note: If your dog has a chicken allergy, choose our fish-based flavour.
How much food should I give my dog per day?
Each of our products includes a feeding table with the recommended daily feeding amount. This table takes your dog's weight into account. Please note: the ideal amount may vary depending on your dog's age, activity level, and individual needs. We recommend following the guidelines on the packaging and adjusting slightly if necessary. This way, you'll ensure your dog gets exactly what they need.
Should I switch from my old power supply? What's the best way to do that?
Yes, if your dog is used to a different food, we recommend switching to Gutsy gradually. This gives your dog's digestive system time to adjust to the new ingredients.
Our Go-To Gutsy Guide:
- Day 1-2: 25% Gutsy + 75% current food
- Day 3-4: 50% Gutsy + 50% current food
- Day 5-6: 75% Gutsy + 25% current food
- Day 7: Time to switch over to Gutsy completely and enjoy!
A smooth transition helps prevent potential digestive problems and ensures that your dog can enjoy his new food optimally from the start.
When and how do I switch from puppy food to adult food?
The transition from puppy to adult food depends on your dog's size. Below are general guidelines:
- Mini breeds (e.g. Chihuahua, Maltese): from 8 months
- Small breeds (e.g. Jack Russell, French Bulldog): from 12 months
- Medium breeds (e.g. Cocker Spaniel): from 14 months
-
Large breeds (e.g. German Shepherd, Golden Retriever): from 18 months
- Very large breeds (e.g. Spanish Mastiff, Bernese Mountain Dog): from 24 months
Puppies need more calories to grow. When transitioning to adult food, you'll often find that the number of meals per day is lower. Consult our feeding chart for the correct number of meals and the recommended daily amount.

Is this food good for dogs with a sensitive stomach / food intolerance?
Yes, Gutsy is ideal for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Our food is hypoallergenic and contains insect proteins with an exceptionally high digestibility of 94.7%. This means your dog easily absorbs and processes the food, which helps reduce digestive issues like flatulence, diarrhea, or nausea. We consciously choose natural, pure ingredients without artificial additives or unnecessary fillers—exactly what dogs with sensitive stomachs need. Customers often report that their dog feels visibly better after switching to Gutsy. Our easily digestible formula supports healthy gut flora and ensures that even sensitive dogs can eat with pleasure and without worry.
Are there any added vitamins or supplements?
We don't add specific supplements to our food, as you would give them separately, but we do enrich our recipes with carefully selected ingredients that support your dog's health. For example, we add:
Salmon oil: rich in omega-3 fatty acids, supports healthy skin and a shiny coat.
Turmeric: known for its natural anti-inflammatory properties and support of healthy joints.
Yucca: helps improve intestinal health and contributes to less odorous bowel movements.
Rosemary: an aromatic herb that promotes blood circulation and supports amino acid production. Our diet also contains essential vitamins such as:
Vitamin A: important for skin, vision and the immune system.
Vitamin D₃: supports bone formation and calcium metabolism.
Vitamin E: a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells.
What should I do if my dog gets diarrhea after switching?
Mild diarrhea can sometimes occur during the transition to a new food. This is usually temporary and is related to the digestive system adjusting. We recommend a gradual transition over 7 to 10 days: gradually mix more of the new food into the old one. If the diarrhea persists for more than a few days or if your dog exhibits other symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, or refusal to eat, contact your veterinarian.
How long does food stay good after opening?
Our food stays fresh for 18 months after the production date, as long as the packaging remains unopened. Once opened, we recommend using the food within 2 to 3 months. Ensure the bag is tightly closed after each use to maintain optimal freshness.
Do you have any food for constipation?
At Gutsy, we understand how frustrating it is when your pet suffers from constipation or difficult bowel movements. That's why our food is always high in fiber , which ensures smooth and healthy intestinal flora . The extra fiber stimulates intestinal function and helps get bowel movements moving again—naturally. Our kibble is specially formulated to keep the intestines active. This makes Gutsy ideal for dogs and cats that are sensitive to hard or irregular stools. Does your pet have specific intestinal issues? Then you can use our probiotic supplements as a supportive treatment to restore intestinal balance. Additional tips: Ensure plenty of exercise —walking stimulates natural bowel activity. Always provide fresh drinking water .
My dog has diarrhea, what's causing this?
Does your dog suffer from diarrhea or flatulence? Then you know how unpleasant it can be—both for your dog and for you as an owner. At Gutsy, we often hear from customers that these symptoms disappeared once they switched to our food. This is no coincidence: our kibble is easily digestible thanks to the use of high-quality insect proteins, which are much less likely to trigger allergies or intolerances. By choosing carefully selected, natural ingredients without unnecessary additives, we ensure that your dog's intestines regain peace and balance. Diarrhea in dogs can have many different causes. Sometimes it's because your dog eats something outside that disrupts the intestinal flora—such as a bacteria or parasite. In other cases, an allergy plays a role, or the cause is stress or a sudden change in food. Even switching to new kibble can take some time for the intestines to adjust, which sometimes leads to looser stools in the first one to two weeks. But when the composition is right and your dog is given time to adjust, these symptoms usually disappear on their own. Besides good nutrition, it's important to pay attention to other factors: give your dog enough exercise to stimulate intestinal function, ensure a calm environment, and always provide fresh drinking water. For additional support, you can temporarily give a probiotic supplement to further balance the digestive system. Also be careful with table scraps, as they can easily upset a sensitive stomach or intestines. Finally, it's recommended to deworm your dog at least four times a year or have a fecal test performed occasionally. If diarrhea persists despite these adjustments, or if you notice additional symptoms such as lethargy, weight loss, or vomiting, it's wise to contact your veterinarian. Diarrhea can also be a symptom of an underlying condition that requires medical attention. At Gutsy, we believe in nutrition that truly makes a difference—and that starts with a healthy gut. Our easily digestible kibble ensures a calm digestive system and gives your dog renewed energy, comfort, and happiness.
Why does my dog eat grass?
Eating grass is normal behavior for many dogs and usually not a cause for concern. Some dogs do it occasionally to relieve mild stomach upset; in such cases, grass can help relieve nausea or induce vomiting. Other dogs eat grass out of habit, curiosity, boredom, or even because they find it tasty—young and lush grass is especially appealing. In rarer cases, it can indicate a lack of fiber or other nutrients in the diet. Therefore, a balanced diet is important. As long as your dog is otherwise healthy, eats well, and shows no other symptoms, eating grass is usually not a problem. If you suddenly notice changes in behavior or digestion, or if your dog eats a noticeably large amount of grass, it is advisable to contact your veterinarian.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Yes! Our packaging is made of monoplastic, meaning all bags are 100% recyclable. You can easily recycle your Gutsy bag by sorting it with your plastic waste. Monoplastic has the advantage of being easier and more efficient to recycle than packaging made of multiple materials. We consciously chose this solution, even though it means an extra investment on our part. This way, together we ensure the smallest possible ecological footprint.
How do you ensure a sustainable chain?
We are actively committed to a sustainable supply chain. We do this by using insects as a key protein source in our diet—an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional animal proteins. We also source our ingredients locally as much as possible, close to our factory, to minimize transport and CO₂ emissions. We also make conscious, sustainable choices in our packaging. We do everything we can to offer a product that minimizes the ecological footprint of both consumers and their dogs.
